Welcome new members! We hope you enjoy our friendly group and the many activities we have planned for September and October.
Please join us in congratulating Frank McGraw on his retirement from the State of New Jersey. Now Frank has more time to enjoy dancing, dining and Yardley Singles events. Good luck, Frank, and have fun—we know you will!
We were all saddened by the untimely death of Bill Winsor, a/k/a known as “New Bill.” He wasn’t with our group very long, but Bill made many friends and he will be missed. Our thoughts are with his family.
Even though the sun is setting earlier these days, it’s still summer, and we have another picnic scheduled for Sunday, September 14, at Washington Crossing State Park, Pennsylvania side, in the General Washington Pavilion from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Join all of your Yardley Singles friends for a fun afternoon of great food, volleyball, horseshoes, and the Chinese Auction. We’ll hope for perfect weather this time—no heat waves allowed! RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.
Then start to plan your costume for our annual Halloween Dance at Yardley Country Club, 1010 Reading Avenue, on Friday, October 17, from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. In the past, most of the participants have come in costume, and we have had some fabulous and hilarious getups, so you won’t want to miss this event. A cash bar will be available and a disc jockey will play our favorite tunes for dancing—perhaps the Monster Mash?? RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.
Many of us were disappointed by the sudden closing of General’s Quarters. We are trying out a few new venues for Friday nights and appreciate your feedback. A group went to Joseph’s Grille recently and had a good time. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to pass them along to a board member. And we are always looking for volunteers to host a house party.
For those of you suffering from Rick and Kenny withdrawal, they will be playing at a luau at Trenton Elks Lodge in Ewing, New Jersey, on Saturday, September 27th. For more information, call Doris at 609-882-6340. This is a non-sponsored event.
One of our members, Barbara Evans, would like to plan a trip to New Orleans either in November or April. If you are interested, email her at Mrsmarm@aol.com. This is a non-sponsored event.
DINING EVENTS. When attending a dining event, you must pay your share in cash (no credit cards), and be sure to add twenty-five percent to your bill for tip and tax. Your cooperation will greatly help the board member in charge of the dining event.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, and we hope to see you at a Yardley Singles event.
