Congratulations to Carol Sheehan on her retirement from teaching.  We wish Carol the best and can’t wait to see what she adds to her already very busy schedule!

When we think gasoline prices can’t get any higher, they do, so please be sure to chip in on driving expenses when carpooling.

DINING EVENTS INFO:  Please call the hotline if you have a reservation for a dining event and change your mind so that we can give the restaurant an accurate number.  And don’t forget to add twenty-five percent to your bill for tip and tax.

For those of you who like July fireworks, check out the 2008 Freedom Festival at Mercer County Park on Saturday, July 5.   Admission is free, and the fun starts at 2:30 p.m., ending with fireworks at sundown.  The Festival includes entertainment, over 40 food vendors and more than 60 crafters.  This is a non-sponsored event.

Attention all music (and food!) lovers.  The outdoor Bethlehem Musikfest on Saturday, August 9, features continuous music on ten different stages.  Enjoy an afternoon of live music and delicious food in historic downtown Bethlehem.  Admission is free.  Meet at Yardley Park’n’Ride at 2:30 p.m. for carpooling.

One of the highlights of summer in Bucks County is the Middletown Grange Fair, celebrating its 60th year.  Meet at the Information Booth at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, for an evening of fun, great food, entertainment and displays by over 4200 participants ranging from cows to quilts!  For carpooling, call the hotline.  If the weather is uncooperative, we will go on Thursday, August 14.

Events

At last year’s summer picnic, we had to cope with Tropical Storm Barry.  At this year’s picnic, we had to cope with a Tropical Heat Wave!  But in spite of the weather, we had a great turnout and a super time.  The awesome “chef tag team” of Phil, Kathy and Gus served up burgers, hotdogs and chicken grilled to perfection.  Brian and his lovely assistant, Natalie, kept the Chinese Auction moving at a lively pace while participants opened a variety of gifts, but there did seem to be a theme of wine, candles and unmentionables which kept us laughing.  Many thanks to the Board Members who worked so hard on the picnic.  Once again you did a fabulous job, and your hard work was appreciated by everyone.

Havana’s in New Hope, featuring big band music with Frank McGraw’s son, was recently attended by a group of members who raved about the music, the dancing and, of course, the food, and is becoming a Yardley Singles favorite.  If you haven’t been there yet, it’s on the calendar for Sunday, August 3.

Our fall picnic is scheduled for Sunday, September 14, at Washington Crossing State Park, Pennsylvania side, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  So mark your calendars for another fun day, and we’ll hope for cooler temperatures and maybe even some volleyball!

Have a happy and safe summer, and we hope to see you at a Yardley Singles event.
